The Piedmont Kingsmen Baseball team scored 15+ runs for the second game in a row in a rout of the second place Statesville Owls at York Comprehensive High School on Wednesday night, 17-3.
The Red and Blue move to 8-0 on the friendly confines of York Comprehensive High School and extend their lead in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League standings to 3.5 games.
Mark Engel extended his hitting streak to eight games in the win for the Pride. “Our offense has really found their stride these last few games for us. We have really been finding the barrel on a lot of these balls.” Said Joe Hudak after the game.
Ben Wetenhall won the Piedmont Pride player of the game, going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s. Peter Brown has been a consistent bat in the middle of the Red and Blues line up. In six games for the Pride, Brown has driven in 12 runs after going 2-for-3 with three RBI’s in tonights contest.
Jason White collected a clutch two RBI double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third to help the Pride open the ballgame up.
Colby Stuart showed why he is leading the SCBL in wins and strikeouts, collecting his third win of the season after throwing seven complete innings, allowing two earned runs, and striking out a staggering 10 Owls. It is the first time this summer that the Red and Blue have had a pitcher collect double-digit strike outs.
The Pride (12-3) will be back in action at York Comprehensive High School tomorrow night as the Charlotte Crushers make their second trip to York, SC in a double-header. First pitch in game 1 is scheduled for 5 P.M.
