A four run first inning capped off a crucial road victory for the Piedmont Kingsmen Baseball team on Friday night at Charlotte Latin High School, as the Red and Blue took down the Carolina Vipers, 7-5.

Mark Engel collected the Piedmont Pride player of the game, going 3-for-5, scoring three of the seven Pride runs, and driving in two runs on the night. Engel leads the SCBL in the batting average category with a .379 average.

JT Wolke came in and worked a scoreless 8th and 9th inning, picking up his first save of the season

Ben Wetenhall, Mark Engel, Jason White, Brayden Lyman, and Scottie Lee all collected RBII’s. The Red and Blue have three of the top five RBI leaders in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.

The Pride jumped out to a quick early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first before the Vipers starting pitcher could register an out. Mark Engel got things going with a two RBI single, followed two batters later by Scottie Lee picking up his 12th run driven in of the summer.

The Vipers would battle back to make it 4-2 ballgame in the bottom of the 3rd. Ben Wetenhall would respond in the top half of the fourth, driving a double to the left center wall, and scoring Dawson Price from second.

Carolina would score two runs in the bottom of the 6th making it a 7-5 game. JT Wolke would throw 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball and the Pride would escape Charlotte Latin High School with the win.

The Pride will be back in action tomorrow night, as we head to Mooresville, North Carolina to take on the second place Mooresville Spinners
