Today, we got the chance to play against the New York Mets Dominican Summer League Team at their facility. The field and surrounding area were immaculate and the group of young men aged 17-21 we played against were incredible ball players, with a high passion for the game and each other. We won the game 1-0 on the back of Tyler Baker’s outstanding performance on the mound, throwing a complete game, 7-inning shutout, along with timely hits and great defense, securing us the win. After the game, we traveled to the sugar cane village of Quisqueya where we handed out food to a few families of disabled children who are members of a local school. Getting the chance to minister to these people is incredible, and seeing their smiles always makes my day and is something I will always remember. The village is incredibly poor, and it was extremely evident that what we were giving them, and just our presence and prayer were uplifting and incredibly beneficial to their lives. This is my second trip with the Pride to the Dominican (2019), and after learning we were returning this year, I jumped at the chance to come back. Our ministry to these people is more uplifting than words can describe, and helping them both physically and spiritually is immeasurably powerful and really brings to life the ultimate power that Gods word brings to people. I love this team so much and getting to learn the game and God’s word under Coach Hudak is something I will always cherish and remember.
