The Piedmont Pride won game one 2-0 and took the victory in game two 5-3 at York Comprehensive High School on Saturday night. With the wins, The Pride move to 23-8 a half game behind the Mooresville Spinners for first place in the SCBL. The Pride will be off until next Wednesday, July 18th when they take on the Carolina Vipers.
Hank Nichols gave the Red and Blue a stellar performance in game one against the Prospects. Nichols threw for 5.0 innings, allowing one hit, no walks, and striking out nine batters. Nichols who is one of The Prides weekend pitchers as he is going to summer school at South Carolina University has been a force for the Red and Blue this season. In 15.0 innings pitched this season, the righty has a record of 2-0, allowed five hits and only one earned run.
The Pride would jump out to an early 2-0 lead after a Jake Wright RBI double scored Bryce Hensor and Mark Engel in the first inning.
The Prospects would forfeit the first game due to lack of players after two of their players were injured in the fifth inning.
The second game of the double header would be played as the Red and Blue take the victory 5-3.
Rhian Mann threw a dandy for The Pride on the mound going five innings deep, striking out seven and allowing no earned runs. Nolan Wilson closed the deal for The Pride in the top of the 7th for his 3rd save of the season.
The Pride got home runs from Richard de la Cruz, his first of the season, and Abraham Mow. Mows fourth long ball of the season pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Mow has homered in three straight games.
