The Piedmont Pride combined to hit for nine extra base hits, five of them being home runs in a 16-14 slugfest victory over the Charlotte Galaxy on Thursday night. The Pride combined for 17 hits total and move to 21-7 on the season moving into first place in the SCBL. The Red and Blue have seven regular season games before the playoffs start on July 22nd.
The Pride fell into an early hole in the ball game as the Galaxy took a first inning lead of 1-0. The Pride would tie the ball game back up at 1-1 after a Khale Rhame RBI single to right field.
The Galaxy would answer with a one run bottom of the second on a solo home run. The Red and Blue would take their first lead of the game in the top of the third putting up five runs and taking a 6-2 lead.
Charlotte would tie the game up on a grand slam in the bottom of the third making it a 6-6 ball game.
The Pride took the lead back with a big top of the fifth inning, hitting three home runs back-to-back-to-back. The home runs came from Jaret Peterson, Josh Baker, and Abraham Mow.
The Pride would add two more in the top of the 7th, making it a 12-7 game after a Jake Wright lazer shot home run to deep center field.
Charlotte would test the Red and Blue in the bottom of the ninth putting up five runs and leaving the bases loaded with the game winning run on first base. Nolan Wilson came on to pitch for The Pride with one out in the ninth, shutting down the threat.
Jake Wright went 2 for 4 on the night with 2 RBI’s while Josh Baker went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Kale Rhame joined the offensive onslaught going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s.
The Pride will head to Concord to take on the Athletics tomorrow, July 13th.
