Pride Come From Behind, Win In Walk Off Fashion Against Vipers

Mark Engel sent a looping single into center field scoring Abraham Mow from 3rd base to score the game winning run in the 11th inning to defeat the Carolina Vipers on Tuesday night at York Comprehensive High School. The Pride came from behind facing deficits of two and three runs and rallied together to get the come from behind victory.

The Vipers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Pride would answer in the fifth with a five run inning that featured a sacrifice fly from Jake Wright, a RBI single from Chris Padilla and Abraham Mow, and a RBI fielders choice from Jared Gay and The Pride would take a 5-3 lead over Carolina.

The Vipers would reclaim the lead in the top of the 8th on a four run inning, 7-5.

The Pride would come back to tie things up at 7 apiece in the bottom of the 8th using two walks and a wild pitch that would score Jake Wright from 3rd and an error by the catcher overthrowing the pitcher covering the plate would allow Jaret Peterson to come home as the tying run from second.

Joey DelGatto would allow a one out double in the 9th, but a ground out and a strike out to the next two batters would shut the door on the Vipers.

In the Prides offensive side of the 9th, Alex Reed would start the inning off with a single up the middle. A sacrifice bunt by Mow would move Reed over to second base. Back to back strikeouts for the Red and Blue would send the game into extra innings.

Nolan Wilson would pitch for The Pride in the top of the 10th allowing a leadoff walk but slamming the door shut on the Vipers with a runner on second with two outs, striking out the opposing batter.

The Pride would get runners over to second and third in the bottom of the 10th, but a pop up to the short stop would end the offense chances to put away the game.

The Vipers would go down 1-2-3 in the top of the 11th thanks to Mr. Strikeout Nolan Wilson.

The Pride would lead off the bottom of the 11th with a walk to Mow. Nolan Wilson would execute a perfect bunt down the 3rd base line and beat out the throw to put runners on first and second with one out. With Mark Engel at the plate, a wild pitch would move the runners over to second and third and the very next pitch Engel would bloop a single into center field scoring Mow from third to secure the walk off victory for the Red and Blue.

With the win The Pride move to 20-7 on the season, tied with the Mooresville Spinners for first in the SCBL. The Pride will head to Charlotte on Thursday, July 12th to take on the Galaxy with first pitch scheduled for 7 P.M.
