The Piedmont Pride got a gem of a start from right handed pitcher, Will Lozinak on Tuesday night as The Pride defeated the Charlotte Galaxy, 1-0. Lozinak threw for 7.0 innings of work while striking out four opponents and walking none.

Lozinak just joined the team on Sunday, as his college team the Morehead State Eagles were playing in a NCAA Tournament Regional. “I just wanted to come out and show the guys that I’m a strike thrower” said the righty.

The trio of Grant Wagner, Nolan Wilson, and Joey DelGatto would keep the shut out alive in the 8th and 9th innings and The Pride would take the victory and move to 7-0 on the season.

The Red and Blue would strike for their lone run in the seventh inning. With Kale Rhame standing on second base with one out, a pass ball would move Rhame over to third. Two pitches later, Bryce Hensor would reach base on balls and The Pride would have runners on third and first with two down. With Jake Wright at the plate, Hensor would show steal and get the pitcher to come off the runner attempting to get the final out of the inning. Rhame at third saw this as the perfect opportunity to take home plate. One run would be all The Pride would need in the close, low scoring ballgame.

Pride starting pitching has been dominate the last few starts as they have thrown for 18 innings pitched, five hits, three earned runs, and most importantly three straight victories.

“The game tells you that seven out of ten times you put the ball in play, it’s going to be an out. That’s why our job is to throw strikes and let them hit it. And Will did an excellent job at that tonight.” Head skipper Joe Hudak had to say about his starters strong performance.

The Pride will take off Wednesday and be back in action at York Comprehensive High School on Thursday, June 14th when they take on the Concord Athletics.
