“As a member of the Kingsmen Baseball staff, I’ve had the chance to go on three trips to the Dominican Republic. Every time I’ve had the opportunity to come to this country has brought blessings into my life like I have never seen before. Last January, I made the decision to rededicate my life to Christ while here, and I have seen changes in my behavior and my perspective as a result. Due to this, I came into this trip with open arms and high expectations for what is possible with this group.
Every year, we go into Los Montones, a small village off the beaten path near San Pedro. It is the hometown of our translator and my good friend, Kike. We bring bags of food and supplies that families may need, so that we can bless them and bring them joy. This is a great opportunity to learn the stories of some of the locals here in the country, and to pray over them as we assist where needed.
This year was unique because I was joined on the trip by my younger brother, Austin. He was supposed to play with us all summer on the team, but an injury prevented that. Despite this, he was able to join us for the mission trip. I consider this a life-changing trip. But taking it with my brother has been a different experience entirely. I believe it has brought us together closer than we have ever been.
This year, when I went to hand a food bag to someone at one of the houses, we realized that there were two sisters, both needing some supplies. Up walked Austin, and us two brothers were able to exchange words with these two girls, before praying over them and giving them the items. It was a very powerful moment in my life as one family came together to help another family. I am grateful for the chance to experience this moment, and cannot wait to see what other unforgettable things I experience with the Kingsmen.”
