“This trip to the Dominican Republic has been amazing so far. Yesterday, we visited the girls orphanage and got to talk with them and play with them. It was great to see some familiar faces smiling back at us because they were happy we came back to see them. One thing that made me sad was that I saw some new girls, which means something had went wrong in their life to where they needed to be placed in the orphanage. It made me happy though because I knew that they had made it to a safe place that would make sure they were taken care of, would educate them, and keep them safe. Today we played a game against a village team. I really missed being around the baseball field here and seeing the joy that the game of baseball puts on these kids faces. What I missed the most was all of the young kids that hang around the dugout and want to talk to us because they think we are professionals. Their faces light up and they have the biggest smiles when we get off the bus and get ready to go onto the field to play.
This is my 3rd summer coming here and being able to play and do mission work. Every summer is just as good as the last. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to come here and be able to be a part of what we do, because it is truly special and one of a kind. The appreciation the people here have for us for what we do for them or the time we spend for them is something I will remember and carry with me for the rest of my life.”
