The Piedmont Pride clinched their fourth SCBL regular season title in the last five years on Thursday night at York Comprehensive High School, claiming a X-X win over the Concord Athletics on the final day of the regular season.
On the final day of the regular season, both teams decided they just had to play one extra inning before signing off on the 2019 summer. Jason White sent the Athletics down 1-2-3 in the top half of the 10th, and also collected his first win of the summer on the mound.
Reagan Lawlor started off the home half of the 10th with a double off the outfield wall. A walk and a single would load the bases and the late-inning hero, Mark Engel sent a ball right back up the middle scoring Lawlor from third to win the game.
After clinching the number one seed in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League playoffs, the Red and Blue will receive a first round bye, before opening up post-season play at York Comprehensive High School on Monday, July 29th.
The Piedmont Pride posted a 25-10 record this season, good for a .72% win percentage.
After starting the season 3-2, with the offense sputtering early in the season, the Pride found a hot streak, winning 14 of 15 games in early June and scoring 45 runs in a three game stretch, including a 20-0 win over the Lenoir Oilers on home ground on June 17th.
