It’s POSTSEASON TIME!

July 27, 2019

For the fourth time in five years, the Piedmont Pride are the Regular Season Champions of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. The Pride finished the regular season last night with a dramatic 5-4, 10-inning win against the Concord A’s. The Red and Blue finish the season with a outstanding 26-9 record, good for a 1 1/2-game cushion over the second place Mooresville Spinners who had a 25-12 record.
The regular season championship was a tremendous accomplishment for the Pride when you consider they lost 8 players to injury and they had 8-11 players gone on the Dominican Republic mission trips each of the final three weeks of the season.
Head Coach Joe Hudak was very pleased with his club’s performance. “Our guys deserve a lot of credit for winning the regular season under some difficult circumstances”, the veteran mentor explained. ” We lost a bunch of talented players to injury, and we had players coming and going on the mission trips for the final 3 weeks of the season. The guys did a great job of staying focused and just playing one game at a time”.
The league statistics show why the Pride finished first. Offensively, they led the league with a .284 batting average, 260 runs scored, 329 hits, 72 Doubles, and 221 RBI’s. On the mound, the Pride led the league in wins with 25, innings pitched with 297, and strikeouts with 350, while finishing second with a 3.54 ERA. Defensively, the Pride led the SCBL with a sparkling .963 fielding percentage. The Pride now enter the SCBL playoffs as the Number 1 Seed. The playoffs start on Sunday, July 28. As the #1 seed, the Pride receive a first-round bye. Their first game will be Monday, July 29 at 7PM at York High School against the winner of Sunday’s matchup between the Lenoir Oilers and the Statesville Owls.
