GAME ONE:
The Piedmont Pride baseball team became the first team in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League to 20 wins with a win in game one of the doubleheader against the Statesville Owls at York Comprehensive High School, 7-3
With the win the Red and Blue move to 20-7 overall.
Game one resumed with the Pride leading 3-1 in the top of the fourth and Andre Hevesy on the mound, tossing 7.2 innings of 2 run baseball, walking none, and striking out nine. Hevesy moves to 2-0 on the season, and posts a 3.04 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched.
Scottie Lee collected, once again, another RBI in the contest. Brayden Lyman joined in on the party, smacking a bases loaded 2 RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.
Bradley Davis went 2-for-3, scoring a run in his 17th game in the Red and Blue.
GAME TWO:
The Piedmont Pride overcame a 4-run deficit in the 7th inning to send the game into extra innings, then won on an Andrew Judkins RBI fielder’s choice 8-7.
The Pride sweep the doubleheader, rising to 21-7 on the season ,maintaining a 3 game lead in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
Game two began with an early 43-minute rain delay in the bottom of the first with the Pride leading 1-0. The Pride jumped out to an early 3-0 thru 3 innings, but the wheels fell off in the 4th and 5th innings as the Owls scored 7 runs during those two innings. Starting pitcher Austin Blakely threw a gem in the first 3 innings, but gave up 3 runs in the 4th before being replaced by Kaleb Gibson to start the 5th. Gibson gave up 4 runs in the 5th to give the Owls a 7-3 lead.
The Pride made a comeback in the 7th inning starting with a Bradley Davis single, who eventually came in on a RBI single by Ben Wetenhall to make it 7-4. The bases were loaded with no outs for Scottie Lee, who entered tonight’s doubleheader the league leader in RBIs. Lee hit a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Judkins. Ben Wetenhall scored on a wild pitch to make it a 1-run game with Brayden Lyman up to bat and Mark Engel, representing the tying run, on 2nd base with 1 out. A passed ball moved Mark Engel to 3rd, then a throwing error by the 2nd baseman brought home Mark Engel to tie the game up at 7-7.
Quinton Pittman came in for his 3rd appearance of the season in the top of the 7th, and stayed on for the top of the 8th inning. Pittman gave up a leadoff walk, but got out of the side giving the Pride a chance to end it in the bottom of the 8th. Jason White led off the bottom half
of the inning with a single, then stole 2nd and 3rd on consecutive pitches to put the winning run 90-feet away with only 1 out and Andrew Judkins up to bat. Judkins grounded a 3-2 fastball to 3rd base, but the throw to home was a second late as Jason White scored the winning run.
Andrew Judkins was the hero going 1-for-4 with the game-winning RBI. Ben Wetenhall went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Estridge went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Quinton Pittman picked up his 1st win of the season in just his 3rd appearance.
The Pride are back in action tomorrow night as they head to Victory Christian High School in Charlotte to face the Charlotte Crushers.s
