The Piedmont Pride baseball team split a double header against the Carolina Vipers on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 14-8 and dropping the second game 6-1. The Pride move to 16-4 on the season, staying one game ahead of the Vipers for first place in the SCBL.

The first game resumed in the bottom of the third inning, after being halted by lightning and storms on June 11th. Will Lozinak took the mound and was impressive throwing four shutout innings before giving up six in the bottom of the sixth.

Down 6-2, The Pride would answer with a big 7th inning putting eight runs on the board, capped off by Josh Bakers fourth home run of the year, this one being a three run long ball.

The Vipers would put up two runs in the bottom of the eight making it a close game at 11-8 but a three run ninth inning would add the insurance runs and Grant Wagner would put the icing on the cake for The Pride with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth on the mound.

In game number two for The Pride Rhain Mann would get the starting nod. Mann gave up four earned and The Pride offense could only muster up five hits against a solid starting pitcher for The Vipers and the Pride fell, 6-1.

“In the first game, we did a good job of answering back when they scored. I think that has been one of the best things about the team this year, the way they answer back” said coach Hudak after the game.

The Pride will take tomorrow off and be back in action at York Comprehensive High School on Monday, July 2nd.
