EARLY STRUGGLES COSTLY IN LOSS TO MOORESVILLE

York, SC – Kingsmen Baseball was unable to overcome a large deficit early on against the Mooresville Spinners, losing by a final score of 11-5 this evening at York Comprehensive High School. Mooresville would go up right away as five hits including two triples, three walks, a hit by pitch, and an error would lead to eight runs for the inning. Starter Ben Roberts would settle down in the 2nd to record two strikeouts, but with one strike away from striking out the side Mooresville would hit a home run that bounced off the glove of Cam McNearney to increase the Mooresville lead to 9-0. Kingsmen would get on the board in the bottom of the 4th with RBI singles by Burke Camper and Luke Jenkins. However, the Spinners would increase their lead back to nine in the 6th with two runs of their own. Luke Jenkins would record an RBI in the bottom of the 6th to give Kingsmen its third run. After scoreless 7th and 8th innings, Kingsmen would put up a fight in the 9th, scoring two runs by way of a wild pitch and an RBI single by Sawyer Reeves.

Zach Saufl relieved starter Ben Roberts. He pitched 4.0 strong innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and four walks while striking out four. Cam McNearney and Sawyer Reeves both collected three hits each. Kingsmen will return to action on Friday, June 17th against the Carolina Vipers.
