The Comeback Kids Strike Once Again, Defeat Galaxy 8-4

The Piedmont Pride were down to their final three outs in the top of the ninth on Friday night trailing by one run to the Charlotte Galaxy. The Red and Blue used a five run ninth inning to take the lead and eventually the victory, 8-4.The Pride combined for 13 hits and only allowed six by the galaxy.

Two single and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Red and Blue. A wild pitch by the Galaxy pitcher tied the game up at 4-4 as Chris Padilla came in to score. The very next pitch Jake Wright singled into the left center gap scoring two and giving a 6-4 lead to the good guys.

With Wright on base the next batter, Jared Gay, hit his fourth long ball of the year to deep center to extend the lead, 8-4.

Nolan Wilson would come in with one out in the ninth and strike out two batters for the final outs of the game. Wilson has faced 41 batters this summer, striking out 23 of them.

Rhian Mann gave The Pride another quality start on the bump Friday night. Mann threw for 5.2 innings, striking out eight, and allowing four earned runs. Mann now leads the team in strikeouts with 25.

“We rallied together in the ninth and just kept passing the torch to the next batter” said Coach Dalton Tharp post game.

The Pride move to 13-2 on the season, tied with the Carolina Vipers for first place in the SCBL. The Pride will head to Concord High School to take on the Concord Athletics tomorrow night, June 24th.
