The Pride were down to their final out, and their final strike for three straight batters but came away with the walk off win against the Mooresville Spinners on Thursday night at York Comprehensive High School, 7-6. The Pride move to 4-0 on the season and are still dead locked in first place with the Carolina Vipers atop the SCBL.
The Pride entered the ninth inning trailing by one run to The Spinners. A leadoff walk to Abraham Mow started the rally but the next Pride batter grounded into a double play. With two outs the next three batters all pushed a two strike count and battled The Spinners closer. Both Tyler Estridge and Joe Sibeto singled to the left side of the infield and put runners on first and second with two outs for the Red and Blue. Head coach Joe Hudak would make a pinch runner for Sibeto and sub in Bo Williams at first.
The next batter, Chris Padilla would foul off two straight, 1-2 count balls. The next pitch he saw, Padilla would loop a soft line drive that landed five feet in front of the right fielder. Estridge would beat the throw to the plate, and the catcher, who miss played the ball, would have to chase it back to the backstop. Bo Williams would round third and head for the plate, sliding under the tag of the pitcher and scored the game winning run.
“In baseball we play to the last out. It doesn’t count as a win if you only record 26 outs, and when we were down to our 27th out, I think our players showed great heart and composure to stay in the game and win a tight ball game” said Coach Hudak after the game.
Grant Wagner would get the start for The Pride tonight and throw a nice 3.2 innings allowing six hits and striking out six Spinners. Joey DelGatto would get the win for The Pride after coming in and throwing 2.1 innings while allowing two hits and no earned runs.
The Pride were out hit by the Spinners 13 to 8. Mark Engel would have himself a night at the plate going two for three with a walk and one RBI. Joe Sibeto would join Engel going two for four with an RBI.
The Pride will head to play the Lake Norman Copperheads tomorrow, June 8th at Huff High school. Make sure to follow along with The Prides season on the Pride Radio Network and on social media. Twitter:@thepridebball and on the teams website www.pridebaseball.net.
