Pride Claim Second SCBL Post-Season Title, Defeat Vipers 16-11

August 4, 2019

The Piedmont Kingsmen Baseball team claimed its second SCBL postseason tournament championship on Saturday night at York Comprehensive High School, taking down the #3 seed Carolina Vipers to claim the title, 16-11.

The Pride finish the season with a record of 28–10, good for a winning percentage of 73%. It is the Red and Blues second postseason title in their brief 5-year history, the other coming in 2017 defeating the SBA bones in the championship round in game 3.

It is the first time in Piedmont Pride franchise history that a team has claimed both the regular season title (2015,2016,2018,2019) and the postseason title (2017,2019).

After starting the year 3-0, the Pride took an early lead in the 2019 summer standings in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. The Red and Blue would stand atop the standings all season, with the Mooresville Spinners battling back and forth with the Carolina Vipers for second place.

Richard De La Cruz had an outstanding game in the championship round, collecting six RBIs and scoring two runs for the Pride. Brayden Lyman sent a home run over the fence as well in the rout.

John Bakke started the final game of the season for the Pride, tossing 5.0 innings of two hit baseball while striking out five.
