YORK- The Piedmont Pride (8-2) continue their five game homestand, beating the Charlotte Galaxy 8-0 Monday night. The Pride were again solid all around, the offense scored nine runs on eight hits and the pitchers shut down the Galaxy limiting them to five hits..

Position players, Jake Hammon and Zach Shank, were on the mound for the Pride tonight, and they performed like everyday starters, going for a combined 7.2 innings pitched, only five hits allowed, nine strikeouts, to three walks.

“I thought we played well in all phases of the game,” Coach Joe Hudak said after the win. “I was really impressed with the pitching, both Hammon and Shank threw well. They threw strikes and were ahead in the count, and then Tristan Helms came in and closed it. I was real impressed with the pitching.”

The Pride were consistent when it came to scoring as well. Cody Littlejohn, in his first game with the Pride, drove in a run in the first. The Pride would score three in the third with RBI singles by Littlejohn and Joe CampagnaJavon Martin hit a triple as well that scored a run. The Pride led 5-0 after three and would add three more in the bottom of the eight to put the game securely out of reach.

“We didn’t have any big innings but some really good at bats. We worked the Galaxy’s starting pitcher well, and built a good lead after four innings. You build a 5-0 lead after five, that’s a pretty good lead,” Coach Hudak commented.

Josh Gregory was patient at the plate drawing three walks, and Martin was effective on the bases scoring three runs tonight.

The Pride now focus on what should be a great matchup on Wednesday against the SBA Bones (8-2). It’s a rematch of the SCBL Championship, and both teams sit tied atop the SCBL standings this year. Both clubs have been consistently near the top of the standings the past few years.

“They are a really good club, they’re well coach and talented and it should be another good game.” Coach Hudak said. “We’ll be ready to play, and we’ll need to play well to win.”

First pitch from York Comprehensive High School is set for 7 pm.
