CHUGIAK, Alaska — After a couple of days off, the Kingsmen returned to action Wednesday night in Alaska, losing their series opener to the Chugiak Chinooks by a score of 5-1.
The Chinooks were able to take an early lead after some well-played small ball, and took advantage of a couple of big hits late in the game to stretch out the scoreboard.
Kingsmen starting pitcher Nolan Alexander rebounded in a solid start, giving up just one earned run in 3.2 innings pitched. However, the Kingsmen struggled to put runs on the scoreboard to help out the defense, despite hitting the ball hard and putting runners aboard.
An example was Josh Jackson, as the designated hitter had a single, a fly ball into the gap that was caught with a dive, and a hard line drive right at an outfielder. Catcher Mason Salisbury and second baseman Gino Lazzari each had two hits for the Kingsmen.
Despite the loss, Coach Joe Hudak was happy with the team’s play in the contest, conceding that the Chinooks were simply the better team across the seven inning game. Hudak and the Kingsmen hope to rebound with a win Thursday night, with action starting at 6pm local time at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.
