YORK, S.C. — Kingsmen Baseball suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to the Hendersonville Honeycrips in their home opener on Friday. It was a frustrating outcome for the Kingsmen, who came into the game with high hopes of starting the season with back-to-back wins.
The Kingsmen pitching staff had a dominant showing in terms of strikeouts, recording 13 over the course of the game. Despite that, control proved to be a major struggle as they also walked 15 batters — a stat that made things difficult throughout the game.
With pitch counts running high, the Kingsmen used a total of six pitchers across the contest, trying to find some consistency in the strike zone.
Offensively, the Kingsmen struggled to plate runs, losing a couple runners in scoring position. The brightest part of the day on the offensive side came when second baseman Josh Jackson hit a scorching double off the left-center field fence, one of three hits of his in the ballgame.
Following the loss, the Kingsmen head to Florence on Saturday to battle the Florence Flamingos. The game has a listed first pitch of 7:00 at CarolinaBank Field. Hear from Coach Hudak below:
