GASTONIA, N.C. — The Kingsmen Baseball Academy held a successful intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday as it wrapped up its winter break.
Stretching 13 innings long across two games, the intrasquad featured high-intensity simulated game action, which saw eleven Kingsmen pitchers take the mound.
Held at the beautiful Big League Camp in Marion, North Carolina, the scenic and remote location along the Catawba River allowed for the team to enjoy some time outdoors and lock in on preseason development.
“We loved hosting the Kingsmen Academy Thursday,” said Big League Camp manager Marty Queen. “Coach Hudak and his team were awesome. The players were so courteous and friendly, and that’s a reflection on their parents and coaches. We’d love to have them back anytime and I wish them safe travels on their upcoming trip.”
Academy Head Coach Joe Hudak was another one of the many involved that was pleased with the work that was done.
“We had an absolutely great day with our intrasquad game,” Hudak commented. “Every pitcher was able to throw live to hitters, and every hitter had 3-5 at bats against live pitching. It was very necessary preparation for our trip to the Dominican Republic.”
With the mission trip less than a week away, every second counts.
But with the offseason concluding, and winter weather on the way in North Carolina, it felt like a fitting end to a very productive winter stretch.
“Our guys have worked extremely hard on the field and in the weight room for the past 5 months,” Coach Hudak beamed. “The improvement they have made from that first day of practice back in August until now has been amazing. I’m so very proud of them.”
They’re ready for the spring.
Keep an eye out for the official release of the Kingsmen Baseball Academy spring schedule. The schedule, subject to change, will be released next week.
