“This trip has been life-changing and a powerful reminder that we serve a living and active God. He has answered so many prayers and has been working in clear, tangible ways.

One of my main prayers throughout this trip has been that God would help me overcome the language barrier so that it wouldn’t hinder my ability to share his gospel and his love.

He first answered this prayer after our second game of the trip, in Boca de Chavón. Up to that point, I had been struggling with my Spanish. It was hard for me to connect with people—both speaking and understanding the language felt like a challenge. On the other team, there was a 39-year-old man who had once signed to play for the Red Sox. He stood out to me—and to everyone else—throughout the game. Afterward, I had the privilege of gifting him a Spanish Bible. As I handed it to him, we had a short conversation entirely in Spanish. To my surprise, I understood every word he said, and he understood me perfectly. I was stunned. The only explanation was that God stepped in and answered my prayer. In that moment, he removed the language barrier so that I could share His gospel.

The next time God answered this prayer was at a Spanish-speaking church. The entire service was in Spanish—no English at all. Yet, they sang songs I knew in English. As they worshiped in Spanish, I was able to worship in English. Despite the language differences, we were united in praise. We also took communion together. It was beautiful to witness how, even with a language barrier, we were still one family, worshiping our God as an audience of one.

This trip has already been truly life-changing, and we’re only a few days in. I’m so excited to see how God continues to move in the days ahead!”
