The Piedmont Pride took on the Lenoir Oilers in part of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening, and dropped both games, 3-2 and 9-8. The Pride fall to 11-2 on the season and are back in action on the 12-1 Carolina Vipers on Thursday, June 21st at York Comprehensive High School.
Jaret Peterson got the start for The Pride in game one, pitching for 5.2 innings, striking out two and allowing two earned runs. JT Wolke came in relief pitching for 1.1 innings and allowing only one hit.
The Pride bats started off quiet in game one, striking for five hits. The Pride had their opportunity’s to plate runners, but unable to do so, leaving five men left on base. The scoring for the Red and Blue got started in the fifth inning when an error off a ball hit by Tyler Estridge allowed Luke Stageberg to come home.
Richard de la Cruz lead off the 6th with a double down the right field line and The Pride were able to plate him to tie the game up at 2-2. The Oilers would plate a runner, and the game winning run, in the top of the 7th to take game one, 3-2.
In the second game, The Pride fell into an early 3-0 hole but battled back to tie it up at 3-3. A 5 runs top of the 3rd would give the Oilers a 8-3 lead.
The Pride would battle back in the bottom of the 4th on four walks, two errors, and only one hit to tie the game back up at, 8-8. The Oilers would respond in the fifth with a run.
With the score 9-8 in the bottom of the 7th, The Pride would get runners on the corners with two outs, but a strikeout ended the contest.
