The Piedmont Pride offense exploded for 17 runs and 13 hits in Saturdays night rout of the Mooresville Spinners. The Pride move to 10-0 on the season, still in a dead lock with the Carolina Vipers for first place atop of the SCBL.
Jared Gay saw the ball well tonight as he went three for four at the dish, hitting six runners in, and knocking two balls out of the park, one of which was a grand slam. Gay now has 17 RBI’s on the season, putting him in a tie for first place in the league in runs driven in.
Jake Wright also had a brilliant night at the plate as he went two for three, with a home run, triple, and two walks. Wright is starting to heat up in the last few games with six hits and four RBI’s.
The Spinners struck first in the ball game, scoring a run on one hit in the bottom of the first. The Red and Blue would answer with five runs of their own on a home run from Jake Wright, a double from Josh Baker, and hits from Joe Sibeto, Ben Harris, and Chris Padilla.
Mooresville would come back to make it a 7-5 game in the bottom of the third after a bases clearing double scored three. The Pride would add one more onto their lead in the top of the fifth off a Jared Gay solo home run.
The Red and Blue would blow the flood gates open in the top of the 8th when they scored six runs, four of them coming off one swing from Jared Gay.
The Pride got a strong relief appearance from Grant Wagner tonight as Wagner threw for 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs.
