The Piedmont Pride used a five run fifth inning to put the insurance runs on a 11-5 victory over the Lake Norman Copperheads. The Pride move to 5-0 on the season, still tied atop the SCBL with the Carolina Vipers who defeated the Concord Athletics, 21-6 tonight.
The Pride would strike first in the ball game when in the third inning a lead off single from Chris Padilla would start the rally. After stealing second and moving over to third on a wild pitch, Padilla would be bunted home from third by designated hitter Bo Williams.
Padilla would come back in the fourth inning and drive in a run on a sacrifice fly and The Pride would take a commanding 3-0 lead.
The big inning started off with a bases loaded single from Abraham Mow making it, 4-0 Pride. Jared Gay would come up hitting in the four slot for the Red and Blue and clear the bases and bring every one home on a double. Gay currently sits on 10 RBI’s on the young season putting him in second place in the SCBL in that category.
The Copper heads would answer with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 7th to make it a 7-3 ballgame. The Red and Blue would tack on the insurance runs off a Victor de la Cruz single that scored Alex Reed and the Pride would take the 11-5 victory.
John Brocklebank got the second start of his season for The Pride throwing for five complete innings, allowing three earned runs, and striking out six Copperheads. Nolan Wilson came in to pitch in the eight in a jam with the bases loaded and two outs. Wilson got the Strikeout and struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth. Wilson sits on nine strikeouts this season.
