The Pride used a five run 8th inning to cap off a late inning rally to defeat the Concord Athletics, 10-4. The Pride move to (2-0) on the season and will be back in action tomorrow, June 5th when they take on the Charlotte Prospects at York Comprehensive High School.
The Red and Blue combined for six hits on the day, two of them being home runs, and committed no errors in the field. The pitching staff only allowed four hits on three earned runs.
John Brocklebank started for The Pride tonight and gave a strong performance. Brocklebank gave a solid 4.2 innings while allowing only one hit and striking out three. He moves to (1-0) on the season.
The bullpen did not disappoint for the second straight game as Grant Wagner came into pitch in a jam in the 6th inning before slamming the door shut on the Athletics. Nolan Wilson pitched the 9th inning and shut down any hope the A’s had at a comeback.
The Pride took an early 2-0 lead on the Athletics in the 3rd inning after a Tyler Estridge home run was crushed over the left field fence. The A’s would respond in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run of their own. The Pride would add one more in the 4th and 5th inning to make it 4-1.
The A’s would come back to tie the ball game at 4 all in the bottom of the 6th. In the 7th The Pride would load the bases and take the lead on a pass ball that scored Jake Wright from 3rd base. The next inning, leading 5-4, The Pride would add the insurance runs on a two RBI double that hit off the wall on a line from Jared Gay, and the very next batter Josh Baker sent one into the shrubbery out in right field scoring three and taking a 10-4 lead.
“I think we got some good at bats early today” said Coach Hudak. “We made him pitch to us and got into counts we liked. We forced them to go to the bullpen pretty early in the game”
