YORK, S.C. — The Kingsmen scored early and never let Queen City start their engines, as they took care of business for a season-opening 10-0 victory on Fright night against the Corndogs.
Recent KBA graduate Micah Irving was on the mound, where he set the tone with a nine-pitch inning in the first. He retired his first seven hitters.
The offense started with a level of laser focus that doesn’t come easily on opening night. First, they ripped off some quick hits to take a 2-0 lead. Then, the Kingsmen blew up in the second, batting around the order during an impressive six-run display.
Overall, the offense did its job, tallying 12 hits courtesy of eight different hitters.
Irving was excellent on the mound. He pitched six innings, giving up just three hits while striking out nine. After the Kingsmen scored their tenth run in the sixth, Will O’Shields finished the game with an unofficial save.
The victory marked the third straight year that the Kingsmen have defeated the Corndogs on Opening Night.
They’ll play again Saturday, this time on the road. First pitch in Lexington against the Glowfish is set for 7:05.
