“As our time here in the Dominican Republic comes to an end, there are two main words that continue to come to my mind: joy and perspective.
Whether it was traveling to an orphanage or a baseball field to a game, the people we met at every turn had the largest smiles on their faces. Their lives are full of joy, and they are extremely excited to see us. The game at Boca de Chavón had a profound impact on me. I had the opportunity to spend my time in the dugout and hang out with a group of kids.
The kids never stopped smiling and asking me questions about anything they could think of. I played catch with a boy named Daniel who really wanted a baseball as a gift. After the game, I reflected on my time and realized that the majority of the children didn’t have a baseball or a glove to play catch with on their own. A lot of times I take for granted everything that God has provided for me, but through this trip God has worked in my heart to change my perspective.
This summer and this trip to the Dominican Republic have significantly impacted my faith and I thank God for continuing to work in me and through me to help grow his kingdom.”
