“With this being my second trip to the Dominican Republic with the Kingsmen, it’s safe to say I’m incredibly grateful to have made the decision to return and play this summer. Being here on this island brings a feeling of joy that nothing else can come close to.

Over the past three days, we’ve already visited a boys and girls orphanage and played one game against Robinson Canó’s father’s academy team. My favorite part of the trip during my first tenure was visiting the orphanages, and sure enough, it’s by far my favorite part again. There’s just something so special about seeing the joy these kids have when we come to visit them.

I had the pleasure of meeting a sweet little girl at the girls orphanage and my boy, Alexander, from the boys’ orphanage. These kids are a constant reminder to never take what I have for granted. A lot of them haven’t seen their parents in a long time, and some have never even known their parents, having lived there their whole lives. Despite these circumstances, none of the kids ever seem ungrateful for what they have.

It’s really visible at the girls’ orphanage. Every time we come, they want to braid our hair. For them to do this, they have to use their own supplies like gel, hair ties, and hair clips. They don’t have a lot of those items on hand, so seeing how generous they are with their personal belongings is a testament to how amazing these kids are, despite the situations they’ve been put into or even born into.

Before leaving both orphanages, we passed out Bibles to all the kids. When giving these Bibles away, the kids eyes lit up. That’s when I knew the Lord is present and actively moving through the Dominican Republic.

We have nine days left here, and I cannot wait to see what else the Lord has to show us. The Dominican Republic will always have a special place in my heart. God is good.”
