Back in Action, Kingsmen and Catawba Valley Split Doubleheader

July 8, 2025

YORK, S.C. — The Kingsmen split a doubleheader with the Catawba Valley Stars on Monday, responding with a 4-3 win after being on the losing end in game one.

Catawba Valley exploded out of the gates in game one of the doubleheader, tallying six runs in the first inning. The offense continued throughout the contest, putting up a total of 14 runs in six innings. They scored another six in the fourth inning alone.

The mercy rule came into play in game one. The Kingsmen extended the game in the fifth with a couple timely runs, but the Stars grabbed another in the sixth to end the shortened game.

The most important thing going into game two? Turning over a new leaf, and quickly.

The Kingsmen did just that.

After giving up one run in the top of the first, they charged back with three of their own, including Cole Canty leaving the yard for his first home run of the season. Cole would finish the game with two extra base hits after smoking a fly ball into the right center field fence in his second at-bat.

The Kingsmen’s offense didn’t balloon like their opponents did in game one, but the pitching improved, helping the game to stay close. In fact, the Kingsmen only managed four runs in game two, the same as they put on the board in the first game.

All four pitchers, Nolan Alexander, Hunter Carroll, Aidan Bisbano, and Zane Davis, did their jobs. Bisbano and Davis slammed the door on the Stars after Alexander and Carroll kept them quiet early in the contest.

Zane Davis got the save to give the Kingsmen the one run victory.

With the win, the Kingsmen wrap up their domestic season in the Carolinas. They finish the season series with Catawba Valley 5-2, and impressively, wrap up their Carolina season with a record of 11-3-1.

On Wednesday, the team departs for the Dominican Republic. Look out for updates on games and activities throughout the trip, as well as words from the players in real time as they move through the experience.
