YORK, S.C. — The Kingsmen were firing on all cylinders Wednesday, knocking off the Catawba Valley Stars in both games of their doubleheader.
In game one, Nolan Alexander stole the show on the mound, tossing five innings and grabbing the win. He struck out seven batters in what was the best start of the season for the Lander pitcher.
On the offensive side, Cannon Jackson continued his recent success, hitting his second home run of the season in the second inning. Jackson is the only Kingsman to have multiple home runs this summer as of June 18th.
The Kingsmen went on to won game one, 7-2.
Game two was similar, as the offense continued to roll. As was the case in game one, the pitchers did their jobs, with the theme of the night being the Kingsmen’s relentless ability to get out of defensive jams. The Stars were frustrated across the night, leaving runners on base.
The Kingsmen grabbed a couple of insurance runs in the 5th to make it 6-3, where Alan Benhardt and Aidan Bisbano showcased their ability to close out a ballgame.
The two wins signify an important restart of the domestic season after the team struggled in Alaska. They’ll battle the Queen City Corndogs in another doubleheader Thursday, with the chance to rise above a .500 record for the first time since they were in Fairbanks.
