CHUGIAK, Alaska — The Chugiak Chinooks and the Kingsmen traded blows through a seven inning contest on Thursday, but it was the home Chinooks that prevailed, 10-6.
The Kingsmen had an impressive second inning on Thursday, scoring three runs in the top half of the inning before starting pitcher Isaias Moreno struck out the side in the bottom of the second.
The game stayed close through the middle innings, but the Chinooks broke the score open with a grand slam in the bottom of the 5th, jumping out to a 7-3 lead. The Kingsmen answered back with a home run from Davis Anders in the sixth to make it a one run game, but it was as close as they’d get.
Both home runs were hit from the seventh spot in the batting order.
With the loss, the Kingsmen have dropped five in a row. Their attention turns to the Mat-Su Miners, who host the Kingsmen starting on Friday for two games. Dalton Bisbano is the projected starter for game one, which will begin at 6:00 pm local time on Meridix, with Griffin Leonard on the audio-only broadcast.
