July 14 – Andrew Sands

“With this being my first trip to the Dominican Republic, this first week has been a humbling and eye-opening experience.

Today we spent the majority of the day cleaning out the rooms of rocks, trash, and other debris. Earlier in the week, we spent time at the Boys and the Girls Orphanage where I had so much fun playing different sports like kickball, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. This was an experience I won’t forget.

Seeing the excitement on their faces when we got there warmed my heart and put a smile on my face. Playing baseball here will be a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

During our games, it just felt as if I was 10 years old playing baseball in the backyard and just having fun. The kids down here taught me a valuable lesson on being grateful for what I have and that if I’m gonna do something to do it to the best of my abilities. One of my favorite times here was when a couple of guys from the Paulino Baseball Academy started cracking jokes with us after the game. I am beyond thankful for my experiences so far and can’t wait for what’s to come this week.”
