The Kingsmen Baseball team stayed unbeaten this weekend, winning 3 games to raise their record to 5-0. On Friday, they defeated the Lexington County Blowfish of the Coastal Plains League by a score of 10-8. Then on Saturday, they swept a doubleheader from the Fuquay-Varina Twins of the Carolina Collegiate League by scores of 8-6 and 24-7.
The Kingsmen continued their offensive ways by scoring 42 runs and pounding out 44 hits in the 3 ballgames. They have now scored 64 runs on 70 hits in the five games played.
The batting star Friday night was Jesse Castillo(Fredricksburg, TX) with a double, home run, and 3 RBI. Perry Dyer(Fountain Inn, SC) added 2 doubles and 2 RBI, while Matthew Makowski(Charlotte, NC) had a double, a triple, and an RBI. Andrew Sands(Rock Hill, SC) chipped in with a solo home run. TJ Provenzano(Mt. Pleasant, SC) earned the pitching win with 2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Kingsmen won game one Saturday in thrilling fashion. After 5 innings of a pitcher’s duel left the Kingsmen trailing 3-2, the Twins scored 3 runs in the sixth to take a commanding 6-2 lead. The Kingsmen stormed right back in the bottom of the sixth. After loading the bases with no outs, shortstop Tyler Kamerer(New Castle, PA) hammered a no doubt grand slam over the left field fence, tying the game at 6. After 2 quick outs, a walk, and a single, Jesse Castillo lined a 2-run double to right field to give the Kingsmen an 8-6 lead. David Lee(Pittsburgh, PA) slammed the door and earned the save, throwing a three up-three down seventh inning, striking out 2.
The nightcap was a no doubter for the Kingsmen as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and coasted to a 24-7 win. They actually led 24-0 going into the fifth and final frame of the run-rule game. The hitting stars were too numerous to mention as the Kingsmen pounded out 22 hits. Jesse Castillo continued to swing a hot bat with a single, home run, and 4 RBI, as did Andrew Sands with a single, home run, and 3 RBI. Matthew Makowski and Troy Bachman(Mercer, PA) each had 3 hits, while Perry Dyer and Jack Killelea(Rock Hill, SC) each chipped in with 2 hits. Will O’Shields(Spartanburg, SC) was the winning pitching, tossing 3 shutout innings while striking out 5.
The Kingsmen now have a couple of well-deserved days off before they embark on a 5-game road trip. They travel to Boone, NC on Tuesday to play the Boone Bigfoots(Coastal Plains League), then take on the Queen City Corndogs(Southern Collegiate Baseball League) Thursday in Charlotte. The team travels to the Raleigh, NC area to play the Holly Springs Salamanders(Coastal Plains League) on Friday and finish the road trip with a doubleheader Saturday against the Fuquay Varina Twins.
