Game Recap from Kingsmen Baseball

YORK- The Piedmont Pride (8-3) fell to the SBA Bones (9-3), by a score of 11-5 Wednesday night at York Comprehensive High School.
The Pride had good at bats throughout the game, tallying more hits than the Bones, but they weren’t able to capitalize with a big inning to get them back in the game after being down early. The Pride were unable to drive in runners that were in scoring position, as three times an inning ended with a runner left on either second or third base.
The Bones jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the top of the fourth, and the Pride tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning. A three-run inning led by a Josh Baker double that scored a pair of runs, cut the lead down to five. The Bones would put the game out of reach by scoring one more run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
“Tonight just wasn’t our night,” Coach Joe Hudak said after the game. “It was a game where the Bones played better than us in all phases. It’s just one of those games, it’s not the end of the world. We played poorly, we haven’t done that yet this year, and hopefully we won’t do it much anymore.”
Starter Enrique Perez and reliever John Brocklebank struggled with their command, combining to walk eight batters and striking out six. Brian Wood, in his first appearance on the mound, and Tristan Helms were bright spots as they shut down the Bones’ offense in the last 2.2 innings, striking out three batters a piece.
Shortstop Javon Martin left the game in the fourth inning after being hit in the head by a pitch. Coach Hudak informed us of his status, “We sent him to the emergency room just to get checked out. His is having a little trouble with being dizzy, but a concussion is something we’re not going to take lightly. We hope it’s nothing serious.” Updates on his condition will be provided.
The Pride have two more games at home this week, a doubleheader with the Lake Norman Copperheads (5-2) Friday will finish off this six game homestand. First pitch is at 5 pm and it’s Tropical Theme Night at York Comprehensive High School, everyone who wears a Hawaiian shirt or a lei gets in for free.
