SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS, Dominican Republic — The Kingsmen kicked off the Dominican Trip with a bang on Friday, winning their first game over Cano Baseball, 12-1.
Cano Baseball, founded by the father of former major leaguer Robinson Cano, featured top Dominican prospects from around the San Pedro area, including one who had recently signed a professional contract with a Major League team at just sixteen years old.
The Kingsmen battled through the beginning, pushing across a couple of runs against good pitching to take a three to nothing lead. But in the fifth, the team exploded.
Batting around the order, Kingsmen Baseball slotted in nine runs to break the game wide open, capped off by a grand slam courtesy of Perry Dyer. Dyer managed six runs batted in throughout the game.
Perry was productive on both sides of the baseball, pitching the last inning of the game. It was the first appearance of the season for Dyer.
Following the game, the Kingsmen and their opponents sat down and spoke about the gospel, with the players passing out Bibles to those on the other team.
The team is back in action tomorrow morning, battling Boca de Chavon in a seven-inning game at 10:30.
NOTE: Coach Joe Hudak was unavailable for following today’s game.
